The East 72° Residence is a 1,500-square-feet home in Mumbai that belongs to a San Francisco-based family. Executed entirely through remote collaboration over five months, the project reinterprets Japandi aesthetics by blending Japanese minimalism with Indian materiality and bespoke craftsmanship. Guided by the client’s request for a home with “no sharp edges,” the design embraces fluid forms, curved transitions and a calm spatial language throughout.
The living and dining spaces feature organic geometry, earthy stucco walls and layered ceiling details that enhance light and openness. Custom-crafted elements, including integrated planters and handcrafted furnishings, add warmth and character to the interiors. The private spaces continue this tailored approach through carefully balanced palettes, artisanal artwork and sculptural detailing, resulting in a home where softness, precision and personal storytelling coexist seamlessly.
